Can a flat in Waterloo really be worth £4.5 million...?

Well, you’ve heard the one about the £100,000 broom cupboard in Kensington. May I now introduce you to the £4.5m one-bedroom flat in Waterloo? With a guest room, admittedly, and garage parking for two cars. Still, £4.5m is quite a lot for something its owners describe as “a one-bedroom studio apartment, with a guest room.” And with, it has to be said, the most astonishing views of the capital.

The flat perches on the top of the old MI6 building on Westminster Bridge Road, which looms up behind Waterloo station. After the civil servants moved out more than two years ago, it was refurbished by Crest Nicholson and renamed Perspective. The 20-storey block also gained an extra two storeys in glass, which the developers added on to the building rather like Herzog and de Meuron did to Tate Modern, just down the road.
