Denis Richards

Denis Richards, principal of Morley College in the 1950s and 1960s, has died. Today's Times has an obituary, which recounts how he oversaw the post-war rebuilding of the Westminster Bridge Road college.

"On the day before the opening by the Queen Mother on October 29, 1958, it was discovered that John Piper’s large mural, which was to grace it, would not fit, when the artist finally delivered it. Not put out, Piper asked for a hammer and saw and the mural was soon in place."
