Palm Sunday in Borough Market marks start of Holy Week

Around 600 people joined in the annual Palm Sunday procession from Borough Market to Southwark Cathedral.

Following the blessing of palms, the cathedral choir sang the anthem Hosanna to the Son of David by Thomas Weelkes. Also present was the congregation from St Hugh's church in Crosby Row.

In the afternoon writer and broadcaster Dr Lavinia Byrne, the cathedral's Holy week preacher, gave her first address at evensong. Dr Byrne is speaking during the 12.45pm lunchtime Eucharist on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and at the main Maundy Thursday and Good Friday services.

St George's RC Cathedral held a Palm Sunday procession starting at the Amigo Hall and there was a joint parish procession from Christ Church in Blackfriars Road to St John's at Waterloo.
